We love Tibi. You love Tibi. The world loves Tibi. This season changed none of that. It just reinforced it.
Tibi has become renowned for its signature long and loose silhouettes. Super easy, so breezy, and simply effortless. This season was no different, though designer Amy Smilovic definitely took a sandal-ed step out of her comfort zone.
For the Spring 2016 ready to wear collection at NYFW, Smilovic tried her hand at tacky… Now, we know what you’re thinking. And no, Tibi has definitely not gone the way of the Miami club scene. Utilizing bold materials like sequins and silk taffeta, but balancing them with the modern, minimalist silhouettes and elegant color palettes that makes Tibi, well, Tibi, the designer took tacky and made it deliciously tasteful.
Sequin shorts were transported from the Vegas strip to the NYFW runway by way of a drop-crotch bermuda cut update in a neutral, blush-toned shade, and no one thought iridescent taffeta could look sleek until one model turned the corner draped in a muted forest green pant paired with a turquoise top that made for one hell of a sophisticated ensemble.
In short (sequined, nonetheless), Tibi went bold this SS16 season. And while the mainstays did make an appearance—ankle-grazing slip dresses and fluid, wide-leg trousers—we’re digging the the risk-taking side of the brand, and we hope this is one tacky trend that sticks.
We’re already making room in our spring wardrobe for the pieces we purchase with our clothing gift cards.
What? Can you blame us?
