Not that he has to actually LIVE on the west coast… We all have a little bit of that Cali vibe in us.
1. The Chambray Button Down
A true closet must-have for any guy — not just the west coast prepster. To stray away from the full-on Canadian tuxedo look, pair the button down with a casual pair of chinos during the day, or dress it up with a blazer for a dinner date. Think of the chambray as an alternative to your tried-and-true white shirt.
2. The Plaid Button Down
Unlike the chambray version, a plaid button down (whether gingham, tartan, or windowpane) can be paired with jeans, shorts, chinos, or whatever his legs desire. Just as versatile as a solid shirt, plaids can be dressed up with a tie — hello, handsome! — or made casual with a rolled sleeve and a few undone buttons.
3. The Polo
Polos are a little less casual than a t-shirt, but just smart enough for an afternoon round of golf. Keep it dapper with a muted color and simple logo, or go bold with color and make room for your score card in the front pocket.
4. The Versatile Pant
When it comes to pants, all guys need a good pair of jeans, cords, and chinos. Must have colors? Keep it neutral with khaki, gray, and navy. But don’t be afraid to go for an evergreen or mulberry from time to time, especially if you’re playing it safe up top.
5. The Everyday Tee
Perfect for the beach, a super casual weekend brunch, or layering under your favorite jacket or button down, t-shirts are an essential for guys from the east coast, west coast, midwest, PNW… You get the point. We love the added johnnie-O graphics for a bit of visual interest, but a classic heathered gray tee will never go out of style.
6. The Pullover
The comfort of your favorite college hoodie combined with the prepster vibe of a polo, equals your new go-to outerwear for any occasion. Go casual with a plain white tee and chinos, or keep it crisp with a button down layered underneath.
7. The Go-To Jacket
And of course, every west-coast guy needs a jacket, you know, for when it drops below 60 degrees. Our favorite is the Marshall Jacket. The dual front flap pockets will always come in handy (pun intended), and a guy can never go wrong with a navy field jacket. Coincidence that this also happens to be Ashton Kutcher’s favorite outerwear? We think not.
Good News Alert: Now, you really don’t have to live by the Pacific to get the johnnie-O look. Digital gift cards to the online store (as well as the johnnie-O Love Shack in Santa Monica) are now available across the US.
You can even save 10% off your first order. A few extra bucks in your pocket AND Kutcher-approved style? That’s a win-win for sure.
