There’s no better day than Earth Day to finally recycle your piles of old gift cards.
Yep, that’s right, today is Earth Day. Or the day you know as “thanks again for reminding me about all those paper coffee cups I use instead of my thermos” day.
Sure you’ll start to use your mug for a week or two. But then you’ll get sick of washing it every day and revert back to your paper coffee cup days. Misspelled name and all.
Look, none of us are perfect. And that’s OK. All we can do is try.
So this year, do your part by reimagining the three pages of your used physical gift cards instead of throwing them away after your shopping spree or manicure. And then next year, maybe send your gift cards via email or text? Just a thought.
Here’s how to repurpose you entire physical gift card.
1. GIFT TAGS – PAGE ONE
The best thing about Giftbar gift cards is the quality. The gift certificates aren’t plastic, but instead are composed of three pages that come in pretty designs and include fun photos and messages. This makes them ideal for repurposing after use. The first page of the gift card is entirely patterned, so we suggest using it to make custom gift tags. All you have to do is cut out various shapes and sizes of tags (depending on your liking), punch a hole through the top, loop a coordinating ribbon through, and voila! You have gift tags for future presents.
2. FRAME IT – PAGE TWO
Of course, everyone’s favorite part of the gift card is the ability to add photos and sweet messages. And when repurposing your gift card, you can think of the second page as a free trip to the drugstore to get photos printed. Simply cut around the photo portion — including the message is optional — and pop it into your favorite frame. Then, use the leftover borders to make even more gift tags (it is Earth Day after all… no scrap left behind).
3. BOOKMARKS – PAGE THREE
This DIY is really easy. Like, if you didn’t think of this one before, you’re going to kick yourself for all the chic gift cards you threw away in the past. That’s because the third page is PERFECT for transforming into unique bookmarks. Just cut the two side borders off. That’s it. Seriously.
One last Earth Day tip: All mailed physical gift cards come sealed in a colored envelope. There’s no need to repurpose the envelope, just reuse it for future gifts, cards, or whatever you use envelopes for… Maybe filing receipts for Tax Day next April?
PS. High five for making it through this year. Maybe use your refund on some gift cards?
